The new chair of the Conservative Political Action Conference appeared on C-SPAN Wednesday and said anyone who supports the repeal of "don't ask, don't tell" and the establishment of marriage equality isn't welcome at next year's conference.
As AmericaBlog's Joe Sudbay points out, former vice president and longtime CPAC participant Dick Cheney backs both.
Al Cardenas, the new chair of the American Conservative Union, which runs CPAC, said "gays" are welcome so long as they don't advocate gays serving openly in the military or marriage, which calls into question the participation of gay conservative group GOProud at next year's event.
"I have been disappointed with [GOProud's] website and their quotes in the media, taunting organizations that are respected in our movement and part of our movement, and that's not acceptable," Cardenas told Frum Forum last Thursday. "And that puts them in a difficult light in terms of how I view things."
He said he felt it would be "difficult" to work with the group in the future.
