Actor Zachary Quinto, best known for playing Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and Sylar in NBC's cult series Heroes, has come out as gay in a New York magazine profile, according to a Tweet sent by Mark Harris, an editor for the magazine.
Harris, a contributing editor for the publication, tweeted "Congratulations to Zachary Quinto, out and proud in the new issue of New York magazine. Harris is married to playwright Tony Kushner, whose Angels in America Quinto starred in during its recent Broadway revival.
Quinto is an accomplished actor who previously played a gay character in Tori Spelling's sitcom So NoTORIous. Quinto will also play a gay man in an upcoming episode of Ryan Murphy's new series, American Horror Story and will next be seen in theaters in the financial crisis drama Margin Call. Quinto filmed an emotional "It Gets Better" video last October, as he encouraged suicidal LGBT young people to contact the Trevor Project.
