Following the introduction of actor Freddie Smith as its first gay character, Days of Our Lives will bring an existing character come out as gay on the long-running series, reports Entertainment Weekly.
Chandler Massey, who earned an Emmy nomination for playing Will Horton, is excited at the revelation his character will realize he's gay.
"I'm thrilled to be able to portray my character in an empowering way that will show his struggle to accept who he is," Massey said in a statement released to the press. "It is my hope that this storyline will inspire others to be true to themselves as well."
EW reports that "Will's sexual orientation will become obvious to the viewers as well as family and friends but his journey toward self-acceptance is expected to unfold over the next few weeks."Co-Executive Producer Greg Meng tells the publication, "We are excited to have the encouragement and support from both NBC and Sony to tell the inspiring story of a young man learning who he is as he defines and creates his relationships with others."
For now there's no word on whether Will will become involved with Smith's character Sonny.
