Trump's DOE Pick Has History of Transphobic, Racist, and Misogynist Tweets

William C. Bradford

Also, William C. Bradford is Islamaphobic and does not believe in climate change.

Since even before taking office, Donald Trump has surrounded himself with people who've said and done some pretty hateful things in terms of racism, homophobia, Islamaphobia, and misogyny. But William C. Bradford, his appointment to run the Energy Department's Office of Indian Energy is a next-level xenophobe, and The Washington Post uncovered the tweets to prove it.

At a glance, Bradford doesn't appear to be the most unqualified person Trump's picked for a position since taking office. In terms of qualifications for the job of assisting Native American and Alaska Native Tribes with developing energy, Bradford was attorney general of the Chiricahua Apache Nation, and a faculty member at the U.S. Military Academy, the National Defense University, the Coast Guard Academy and the United Arab Emirates National Defense College. Additionally, according to his biography on the DEO's website, he holds a doctorate, a law degree and a master's in business administration.

But The Washington Post uncovered a series of hateful tweets that Bradford has sent out over the past year, and there aren't many marginalized groups that escaped his vitriol unscathed.

In response to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg encouraging voters in Iowa not to vote for Donald Trump prior to the 2016 election, he tweeted, "Who is this arrogant little self-hating Jew to tell anyone for whom to vote? I hope someday he gets what he deserves for stealin Facebook."

A month after Trump won the Electoral College, Bradford perpetuated disgusting racism against President Barack Obama while also invoking what could be interpreted as a gay or gendered slur by musing about whether or not Obama had plans for a mission in Tehran.

"I think Obama was given his mission in Tehran long ago, and it suits him just fine. How else can a Kenyan creampuff get ahead?" Bradford wrote, also perpetuating the birther movement that Trump practically spearheaded before finally conceding that Obama was born in the United States.

Women did not escape Bradford's disgusting tweets, as he went on a rant about how women should not be allowed in the military and bragged about coming up with the name "MegOBgyn Kelly" when referring to the then-Fox News host that Trump harassed for daring to actually question him during one of the GOP debates.

Just over a month ago, Bradford let his transphobic colors shine through while simultaneously exhibiting utter ignorance about transgender people when he got in on the bathroom debate by tweeting, "Transgenderism is a mental illness and any man who goes into a bathroom after my daughters will quickly change his mind about where to pee."

Bradford's Twitter account has been taken down, and on Thursday he apologized for the hateful things he wrote as if he's magically a different person than he was a month ago.

"As a minority and member of the Jewish faith, I sincerely apologize for my disrespectful and offensive comments," Bradford said, according to The Washington Post. "These comments are inexcusable and I do not stand by them. Now, as a public servant, I hold myself to a higher standard, and I will work every day to better the lives of all Americans."

In case anyone thinks that being misogynist, racist, transphobic, and more doesn't preclude him from doing his job helping Native Americans to develop energy, prior to joining the DOE he showed disdain for the forms of energy that could actually help the very people he's tasked with assisting.

"Soon, 'Climate Change' cultists will be pitied as the nuts they always were," he tweeted.
