Adria Jawort, a Native American trans woman, was to speak on the history of LGBTQ+ and Two-Spirit people in the state.
The bill signed into law by Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte goes further than others in specifically targeting the events.
It's one of three anti-LGBTQ+ bills the Republican governor signed.
"This law represents government overreach on steroids," says Lambda Legal Senior Counsel Peter Renn.
The Human Rights Campaign is calling on Gov. Greg Gianforte to veto these and other anti-LGBTQ+ measures.
A clip of her comments has gone viral.
The ban means public employees are forbidden to advise young people even on social transition.
