Funny or Die has created a humorous lesson in transgender terminology.
The clip, titled "Lessons in Lexicology," features a session with a My Fair Lady-esque "grammarian extraordinaire" played by Jared Harris (Mad Men's Lane Pryce).
His role is to school a clueless cisgender couple discussing the Vanity Fair cover of Caitlyn Jenner.
"Bruce Jenner, good for him, you know?" says the woman at the breakfast table at the beginning of the video. "I wonder why he picked the name Caitlyn?"
"Probably wanted something that sounded feminine," responded the man. "You know, pretending to be a woman and all."
"Your pronouns are more scrambled than the scrambled eggs upon your plate!" pronounces Harris's character, who magically appears to address the "atrocious, offensive, utterly intensive misappropriation of terminology transgender."
The good professor goes on to explain preferred pronouns, as well as terms that may not be appropriate umbrella terms like transsexual. In a service to society, he also breaks down why "transgendered" is inappropriate.
