Caitlyn Jenner Says the 'T' Is Most Misunderstood of LGBTQ People

Caitlyn Jenner Says Out of 'LGBT' The 'T' is Most Misunderstood

Since it broke that the Trump administration hopes to erase transgender people, the highly controversial Caitlyn Jenner is amping up her activism.

Caitlyn Jenner spoke during a benefit for her foundation for trans advocacy, the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation, at a private event in Beverly Hills and emphasized that trans people are the most "misunderstood" under the LGBTQ umbrella, according to Paper.

A few years back Jenner found herself in hot water due to her support of Donald Trump, however since The New York Times reported on the Trump administration's plan to erase trans people, she has not been shy about her disappointment in the president and the political party she backed for years. She voiced her opinions on the memo and her new disposition on Trump in an op-ed with the Washington Post. She also shared some very different political views in the Paper.

"We're going to work with anyone who is in Washington, and on a state level, on equality issues -- Democrats, if they're in power, or Republicans," Jenner said. She also lamented the struggles the trans community faces in 2018.

"Of the L, the G, the B and the T, the T is by far the most misunderstood and the most underfunded. When you have a foundation like this, there's a progression of how you help -- what's the best way to help?" Jenner said.

Executive Director of the Caitlyn Jenner Foundation, Sophia Hutchins, spoke to Paper about the importance of higher education for transgender people and what the foundation is doing to help.

"Going into 2019 we have a lot of our own initiatives. Our first initiative is a scholarship fund that goes to undergraduate LGBT -- especially T -- students as well as graduate students," Hutchins told Paper. "We want people to be able to be self-sufficient, especially in the trans community. We believe one of the best ways they can become self-sufficient is through education. If you look at the impact of education on living in poverty, when you're college educated your lifetime earnings go up X percent -- 200%, 300% -- beyond someone who is not college educated. So for us it is very important to break the wealth gap between the trans community and the non-trans community."

Jenner said she hopes that the transgender movement for acceptance and government protection will prevail with the same determination of the LGB movement.
