 New York Positions Job posting -- Integrated Sales & Marketing Coordinator, New York

Job Responsibilities:

• RFPs: Proactive approach to processing RFPs – both print, digital and multi-platform, including (but not limited to) compiling historical information, brainstorming on potential concepts and writing proposals – including projecting rates & program ideas based on client objectives.
• Assistant to Publisher: scheduling, maintaining calendar, booking travel, expense reporting, tracking budgets, etc.
• Marketing Duties: Work closely with the Associate Publisher/Fashion Director on multi-platform programs from concept brainstorming and proposal development to potential assistance in program execution/recap follow up.
• May occasionally attend meetings locally in NY with reps on ad calls, interacting with clients and preparing meeting materials such as presentation decks, proposals, etc.
• Compile editorial credits and facilitate meetings with Fashion department
• Administrative support to the assigned NY sales team (and sometimes West Coast) with mailings, expense reporting, scheduling, updating sales materials for sales calls, client correspondence, meeting preparation, travel organization, and other general sales assisting duties.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Experience and knowledge of fashion industry is preferred.

Job posting -- Art Director, OUT, New York

Out magazine, a brand with high art and production values, and a finalist for Photo Portfolio of the Year in the 2010 ASME Awards, is accepting resume and portfolio submissions for an Art Director.

The Art director is charged with maintaining the high quality design and packaging of the magazine and online sites. The Art Director must make the graphics visually interesting, lively, and relevant to the content within the tone of the current format, and execute and maintain the general design direction, which is set by the editor in chief. Additionally, the Art Director supervises the Associate Art Director and the Production Manager.

Specific Duties:

• The Art Director is involved in all editorial planning and attends all editorial meetings, and discusses concepts for illustrating and designing articles with the editor.
• Maintains a current inventory of all art projects for the magazines, including photography (in consultation with the photo editor)
• Works with photo editor to gather art for the magazine within dictated budgets
• Works with photo editor in set up and execution of photo shoots.
• Provides whatever creative input is necessary, including possible ideas for display copy and headlines as well as content packaging concepts.
• Aggressively seeks new collaborative relationships with top illustrators and designers, always expanding the magazine’s visual limits to serve a sophisticated audience.
• Plays a key role in the production of the editorial product through the final proofing stages. This includes supervision of the production department, reviewing all photographs and other artwork before jobs are shipped, and checking for correct copy formatting, bleeds, trapping, knockouts, and process color work.
• Coordinates the pagination for each issue of the magazine that balances editorial and advertising requirements.
• Continues to self-train, to seek out and become proficient in emerging softwares, and to keep the editor informed of new tech possibilities that could improve the look of the magazine.


Skill Requirements:

At least five years experience in visual communications, preferably with a consumer publication. A good working knowledge of production. Requires extensive professional experience working with Macintosh computers and software and applications in a publishing environment. The Art Director must be a skilled visual communicator, able to transform written material, photography, and illustration into an integrated package. The Art Director must have the ability to function calmly in frequent high-pressure deadline situations, and the organizational skills to effectively manage multiple concurrent projects, delivering them on strict deadline. The Art Director must be able to assemble, train, and manage a team of creative professionals, and as necessary, delegate projects to them to be completed independently.

Job posting -- Manager of Cable and Media Affiliate Sales and Marketing, New York

The Manager of Cable and Media Affiliate Sales and Marketing is responsible for establishing and maintaining affiliate cable and satellite marketing partnerships and promotions for the Here Television network, the heretv.com website and the resulting original programming, products and initiatives. This role will be responsible for securing carriage agreements, implementing marketing and executing promotional partnerships that align and further the exposure of the Here Television brand. This position requires an experienced manager who will work closely with the GM/EVP to assist in the renewal and expansion of Here Television’s cable and satellite distribution. The candidate must have experience with planning and executing cross-platform initiatives. This position will need to work across departments – creative, media, digital, legal, advertising sales, programming, marketing, and publicity. The ideal candidate must have a full understanding of the legal and fulfillment needs for promotions as well as possess the ability to manage partner expectations while keeping Here Television’s priorities and goals in mind.

Requirements:
• Bachelors Degree or equivalent years of work experience

 Los Angeles Positions Job Posting -- Managing Editor, The Advocate, Los Angeles

The Managing Editor develops, implements, and maintains effective systems to ensure smooth running of editorial production and works to ensure the timeliness of all material pertaining to the Advocate Group of print and online brands. He or she is also involved in long-term editorial planning, including working with senior editors on features and special editorial packages.

Position Duties:

Editing
• Works with all magazine and online editors on scheduling line edits, offering critical analysis
• Assists online editors in posting headlines and articles to the site at specified times throughout the day
• Supervising copy editing and fact-checking

Workflow Management
• Trafficking stories from assignment through production
• Establishes meeting and deadline schedules
• Makes decisions about scheduling and other shipping-related needs
• Assists in enforcing deadlines and ensuring that the magazine and site content is on time
• Attends editorial and production meetings to be aware of procedures and the progress of all editorial material
• Prepares editorial production reports for the magazine and site as needed

Here Media is accepting resumes for a talented, experienced, polished, and aggressive Digital Sales Professional (Western Region) to secure and maintain partnerships with advertisers for all of its brands.

This west coast-based salesperson is responsible for identifying, developing, maintaining and managing accounts to which they are assigned with the goal to hit and exceed set advertising sales goals for various media properties of the Here Media multi-platform portfolio. This includes identifying and contacting decision makers at the client and agency and working in tandem with other integrated sales, marketing, and operational staff, as required. Requirements:

• At least 5 years digital advertising sales experience with high degree of knowledge in the online sales platform and terminology.

Here Media offers qualified, college-level students the opportunity to participate in quarterly, uncompensated internships available in our offices in Los Angeles and New York City. In general, most internships last for 3 months, at 10-16 hours per week. See basic internship descriptions and locations below. Internship -- Information Technology, New York

The Information Technology internship will expose interns to a corporate technical environment, including computer, server, telecomm, and network technologies. Duties will include supporting PC and Mac workstations, creating server/email accounts, pbx administration, installing software, and providing general IT help desk support and project-related work.

The most successful candidates will be proficient with Windows XP, Windows 7, and Mac OSX, and Microsoft Office (particulary Outlook). Knowledge of Server 2003/2008 would also be desirable. A recently completed Microsoft or computer-related certification is a definite plus. Should be organized, and have good problem-solving and communication/customer service skills. Candidates with some prior IT experience and a career goal in Technology preferred.
 

Internship -- Editorial, The Advocate, Washington D.C.

The Advocate magazine, a national lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender newsmagazine and online publication, is seeking an editorial intern in Washington, D.C. to assist in national and state political coverage and research for the fall term.

Applicants must have strong writing skills, a fundamental interest in policy issues affecting the LGBT community, the ability to work on multiple projects at any given time, and an eagerness to write original stories. Administrative tasks are minimal; hands-on reporting and research opportunities are the primary focus of this internship.

Interns will be able to contribute up to a minimum of 16 hours per week and receive college credit for their participation. Internship start date is flexible. The Video Production internship will expose interns to the full arc of production from conception to shooting and may include hands-on duties ranging from booking guests, scheduling shoots, securing locations, materials preparation, running errands, making script copies, transporting production equipment to/from shoots, handling props, running video cameras, cue cards, etc.

Editorial internships are offered in Los Angeles for The Advocate . Interns will assist with various support projects such as editorial gathering, research, proofing, web site production and other related editorial and administrative tasks. Interns will assist the Fashion Director and Market Editor with organizing fashion features, gathering clothing, prepping photo shoots and supporting the fashion department with the administrative effort behind producing the fashion section of each issue.

Internship -- Creative Development, New York

Students on a track to be immersed in the world of film and television will get hands-on experience in all aspects of development and production in our Marketing and Development Internship. Interns will be exposed to all sides of this business from development of stories to writing of scripts to delivery of product to selling & marketing.
