In 2009, Matti Bower, then mayor of Miami Beach, established Miami Beach Gay Pride as an initiative of the Miami Beach Gay Business Development Council. The first event brought together an estimated 15,000 spectators. This year's count is not in yet, but it was bigger than last year's celebration, which drew 100,000.
