A police sergeant who responded to a report of an assault at a gay bar in Glasgow, Scotland, last week delighted patrons when he stayed on to do a karaoke rendition of the disco classic "I Will Survive."

Sgt. Jon Harris was called to the Waterloo Bar Wednesday night to handle the incident, which led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man. After Harris did his duty, patrons and staff persuaded him to join them in karaoke. He responded with a rendition of the song made famous by Gloria Gaynor, and a video of his performance has lit up the internet.

"Everybody just loved it," Peter McKenna-Boyd, the man who recorded the video of Harris, told the BBC. Harris had been talking with the karoake host in the bar and she suggested the officer sing a song, "but I don't think she expected him to," said McKenna-Boyd.

Chief Inspector Mark Sutherland of Police Scotland told the BBC that the officer's performance "helped to defuse any simmering tensions in the pub." "I was pleased to see that once the incident had been professionally concluded, my officers were able to share a lighter moment with those who remained in the pub," Sutherland added.

Gloria Gaynor herself tweeted in support of Harris:
