PrideProm
LGBT teens, adults, and allies gathered for a fabulous time last Tuesday at the inaugural PrideProm at the Queens Museum in New York City. The event was designed for young people who can't bring the date of their choice to their high school's prom — even in New York City, some schools don't allow same-sex dates at prom — or otherwise don't feel they can be themselves at such events, and adults who were denied the full prom experience. It was sponsored by City Council member Julissa Ferreras-Copeland, Cpuncil Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, and the Hispanic Federation. Out council member Daniel Dromm gave a keynote address, Lady Quesadilla hosted the event, and DJ Yayo provided music. Also helping make the even happen were cosponsors Make the Road New York; the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center; the Hetrick-Martin Institute; Mayor's Community Affairs Unit; Queens Center Mall; Club Evolutions; and Queens Museum.
