Movies
Couples Retreat - Not to be a Debbie Downer but four couples jet off for a weekend of counseling at an island result and they couldn't drum up a pair of lesbians? Just saying. Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau make a hilarious pair, and Kristin Davis looks smoking-hot in her bikini bod, switching out of Charlotte mode to play the bad girl. Good fun times for a bit of weekend escapism.
An Education - A coming-of-age story that takes place in a 1960s London boarding school and features a slew of horny, coming-of-age girls and Emma Thompson as their headmistress? Even if there is no explicitly lesbian content, girls should be filing in to see this one in droves. Rosamund Pike, Carey Mulligan, and Peter Sarsgaard flesh out the attractive cast.
Good Hair - Chris Rock's documentary about black women's obsession with hair may appear on the surface to have a niche market, but with Rock's trademark brand of humor and a cast of characters you won't soon forget, Good Hair is dripping with fun and gayisms. Try not to laugh when black women lament their addiction to "creamy crack" and when Al Sharpton says his wife isn't allowed to touch his hair. Watch the trailer below (yeah, as though you haven't seen it already...):
Music
- Crazy Love by Michael Buble: This week the Canadian crooner releases his fourth album -- produced by David Foster, the 12-track Crazy Love features "Haven't Met You Yet," a charming first single from the handsome, Sinatra-like 34-year-old. Watch the "Haven't Met You Yet" video below...
- Gold and Green by Sugarland: This country duo has quite the LGBT following, and it's easy to see why -- they're hip and heartfelt, a winning Dixie Chicks-esque combination. OK, Christmas albums always frighten us, but if Tori Amos can do it (this year's Midwinter Graces), then Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush can. Aside from classics like "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" and "Silent Night," Gold and Green will feature five original tunes.
- She-Wolf by Shakira: We've all been bitten by She-Wolf's title track (hey, even some men have a She-Wolf inside them). We can't tell if Shakira's campiness is intentional or more like lost in translation. Either way, she's a likable pop star and an altruistic individual -- she's donated countless hours and dollars to philanthropic efforts. We hope she succeeds even if her voice grates a bit. She-Wolf comes out October 9.
- Also coming out next week: Idol twink David Archuleta releases Christmas From the Heart, Southern psychedelic rockers the Flaming Lips drop the double-album Embryonic, andDead by Sunrise, a new project from Linkin Park's Chester Bennington, will release Out of Ashes.

My Life in Ruins - Nia Vardalos resurfaces after a five-year hiatus from the big screen in another attempt at marrying her quirky, leading lady charms with Greek culture in My Life in Ruins. Here she plays a tour guide based in Greece and the Americans have become the butt of most jokes. But the shtick is wearing thin, and a truly ill-advised jab at gay nymphos makes this Greek comedy a distant second to Vardalos's "masterpiece." Watch the trailer below...
Nip/Tuck: Season 5, Part 2 - Because season 5 of Nip/Tuck was longer than previous seasons, they've split the DVD release in two. It works, though, because as crazy as Nip/Tuck has been in seasons past, never before have the gay plotlines been so front and center -- and so beyond messed-up. First, lesbian Liz (Roma Maffia) questions her sexuality after a one-night stand with Christian (Julian McMahon), while an accident on the operating table offs Julia's (Joely Richardson) lady love (Portia de Rossi). Hey, I said crazy, not uplifting.
Peter and Vandy - Writer/director Jay DiPietro makes his debut with this film about the budding relationship between two Manhattanites. Starring Jason Ritter and Jess Weixler in the title roles, the plot unfolds in out-of-order vignettes that underscore the highs and lows of their deteriorating love. Unfortunately, despite strong performances from the leading actors, the movie is bound to receive countless comparisons to this year's other young and nonchronological love story set to an indie soundtrack, (500) Days of Summer.
On Blu-ray
Who doesn't enjoy an evil queen now and then? Revisit the one who's still the fairest and vainest of them all in Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, beautifully remastered in a new Diamond Edition combo pack. Also on Blu-ray: Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell, and Robin Tunney conjure up plenty of high school witchery and bitchery in the 1996 horror flick The Craft, and Jack Black and Michael Sera don caveman drag in the prehistoric bromance Year One.
