10. THEATER: Ken Roht's Same-O, A 99C/ Only Electric Ballad
An annual cult-favorite that runs through January 30 at the progressive Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles, this year's 99-cent production -- all the crazy costumes are made out of 99C/ Only merchandise and recycled paper products by Ann Closs-Farley, costume designer for Broadway's The Pee-wee Herman Show -- is a sexy, stunning, surreal musical extravaganza about Eddie and Fred, two wildly different young men who wind up getting married.
9. DVD: The Social Network and Piranha
They might just be the best and the worst movie of the year, and they're both out on DVD January 11. Blink and you'll miss Patrick Mapel as gay Facebook cofounder Chris Hughes, one of Mark Zuckerberg's roommates, in The Social Network. But you can't miss the hot underwater lesbian action between Piranha's Kelly Brook and Riley Steele wearing nothing but flippers -- which just topped Mr. Skin's annual list of cinematic nude scenes.
8. BOOK: The Boys & the Beach, Max-Arthur Mantle
Available exclusively at Blurb.com, this impressive first photo book by Miami-based photographer Max-Arthur Mantle -- whose work has appeared in and on the covers of magazines like Blue, DNA, and Instinct -- celebrates the sun-kissed flesh of more than 50 diverse male models shot on location in Miami Beach between 2005 and 2010. The boys, including cover model Paul Hanschke, exude radiant personalities to match their muscles.
7. CD: For Good, Denise Rosner
As a straight soloist in the choir of the Metropolitan Community Church of New York, a spiritual home for queer Christians, Rosner recorded this compilation -- available at LilyProductions.com -- to benefit MCCNY Homeless Youth Services at Sylvia's Place, an emergency shelter for homeless LGBTQI youth. To celebrate the release, a charity concert January 12 and 13 at New York's Laurie Beechman Theatre will also benefit the cause.
6. THEATER: Daddy
Reprising the plum role he created off-Broadway, out CSI and BearCity star Gerald McCullouch stars in the West Coast premiere of Dan Via's taut and thoughtful drama, which opens January 8 at Hollywood's Hudson Mainstage. McCullouch plays Colin, a gay columnist with a thing for young guys. When his suspicious friend uncovers a dirty secret about Colin's volatile 21-year-old lover, audiences will pick their jaws up off the floor.
5. CD: First Things Last, Lance Horne
Available January 11, the debut recording from this out Emmy-winning composer-pianist-vocalist features musical theater-tinged original compositions with sparkling guest vocals by Alan Cumming, Cheyenne Jackson, Lea DeLaria, Ricki Lake, Meow Meow, and more. Horne, who has performed with the likes of Adam Lambert and Jake Shears, celebrates the release with all-star concerts in New York and London later this month.
4. CABARET: Loose Chanteuse, Varla Jean Merman
With saucy numbers like a Mozart-Lady Gaga mash-up, the divine Miss Merman kicks off a national tour of her new act through January 15 at the Cavern Club Theatre in Los Angeles. A beloved creation of Jeffery Roberson, the Girls Will Be Girls star also shares the terror of being trapped in a Toyota Prius with a lesbian in a video spoof of Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car." Tom Judson -- pruriently known as Gus Mattox -- tickles the ivories.
3. TV: Your OWN Show: Oprah's Search for the Next TV Star
Nancy O'Dell and Queer Eye's Carson Kressley host this inspiring reality contest from executive producer Mark Burnett, which debuts January 7 on OWN. The 10 TV host hopefuls, who'll be mentored by established hosts like Suze Orman, include West Hollywood YouTube comic Ryan O'Connor (pictured) of Ryan O'Connor Eats His Feelings cabaret fame. He's got some tough competition, but Ryan hopes the nation needs another gay best friend.
2. BOOK: Welcome to My World, Johnny Weir
Are you sitting? Yep, the Olympic figure skater officially admits he's gay in this witty collection of outrageous essays and anecdotes about skating, fashion, pop culture, and all things Johnny. "In a sexual way, I'm gay, but I would marry a woman tomorrow if it struck me," he writes in hopes of setting an example for troubled LGBT youths bullied at school or with tough parents. "I don't think sex and relationships necessarily have to go together."
1. TV: Shameless
Based on a popular British series of the same name, this raunchy dysfunctional family dramedy debuts January 9 on Showtime. William H. Macy stars as the alcoholic patriarch of a poor Chicago clan that includes 17-year-old actor Cameron Monaghan as Ian, a gay, pot-smoking high school sophomore having an affair with his 35-year-old boss, a closeted Muslim shopkeeper. This show had us at the copy of Mancho in its promotional photo.
