The Producers walked off with 11 Drama Desk Awards on Sunday night, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This is the most awards ever taken by a single show; the previous record was nine, held by Sweeney Todd (1979) and City of Angels (1990). The Producers won for best new musical, while Nathan Lane won for best actor in a musical, making this his fifth Drama Desk win. Out performer Gary Beach won as best featured actor in a musical for his flamboyant turn in the show. Awards also went to Susan Stroman for direction of a musical and choreography. Tom Stoppards The Invention of Love, about gay scholar A.E. Housman, won an award for Richard Easton, playing the older Housman, as best actor in a play and an award for set designer Bob Crowley. The award for best revival went to Gore Vidals The Best Man. A complete list of winners can be found at www.dramadesk.com.
