Variety reports that Oscar-winning director Sydney Pollack (Out of Africa, Tootsie) is in negotiations to direct a screen version of lesbian author Marijane Meaker's novel Shockproof Sydney Skate. Screenwriter Steve Kloves (Wonder Boys, the Harry Potter series) has already written several drafts of a script based on the book, which tells the story of a college-bound young man who falls in love with a model who also happens to be the object of the affections of his lesbian mother.
