Playbill.com reports that the screen version of the acclaimed Broadway musical Dreamgirls will begin shooting in January, with an eye to a Christmas 2006 release. Out writer-director Bill Condon, whose previous musical experience includes his Oscar-nominated Chicago screenplay, has assembled an all-star cast, including Beyonce, Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, and Usher. Loosely based on the true story of Diana Ross and the Supremes, the musical tells the story of the rise of a 1960s singing group and the flurry of infighting that follows.
