Gay network now available in 50 million households
Here, the first television network created exclusively for gays and lesbians, announced Monday it is now available to 50 million households across the country. "Here continues to set the bar for the way cable operators connect with a significant subscriber base," said Karen Flischel, Here executive vice president and general manager, in a statement. "Gay and lesbian characters and themes have become increasingly prevalent in the media, which has further enabled Here to seize the day as a viable new option for operators to add to their lineup."
The channel, which launched in 2002, recently reached markets as diverse as Miami and Middle American as northeastern Ohio. Here boasts original productions featuring stars such as John Waters, Mariel Hemingway, and Chad Allen. Here is available via satellite and offered by all major cable providers nationwide increasingly as a subscription video on-demand service. The network is also available to broadband homes via major Internet TV providers. (The Advocate)
