Doc follows Filipino transvestites who become caregivers to elderly Israelis.
Strand Releasing has acquired U.S. rights to Tomer Heymann's documentary Paper Dolls, reports indieWIRE.com. The film, which premiered at this year's Berlin International Film Festival, examines issues of immigration and the nature of family by exploring the lives of Filipino transvestites who emigrate to Israel to work as caregivers to elderly Jewish men. In their off hours, the nurses perform in Tel Aviv as the drag troupe the Paper Dolls. Strand plans to roll out the film domestically beginning in September, when it will open at New York's Film Forum. (The Advocate)
