Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange will star in the HBO adaptation of the Tony-winning play Grey Gardens, based on the 1975 documentary about a quirky mother and daughter living in squalor despite their privileged background.

The story follows Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale and her daughter, Edith Bouvier Beale, also known as "Big Edie" and "Little Edie,"respectively an aunt and first cousin to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Their dilapidated mansion, known as Grey Gardens, was found to be infested with animal feces and had no running water or heat.

According to Reuters, the latest adaptation was originally slated for 2006, though not on HBO. There has been no word yet whether Grey Gardens will be released in theaters before airing on the cable channel. (The Advocate)
