Coming Out to Mom: 10 Stories From Grace and Frankie’s Stars

    Milwaukee Pride Parade

Grace and Frankie begins with a coming-out story. In the Netflix series, Sol (Sam Waterston) and Robert (Martin Sheen) tell their wives Frankie (Lily Tomlin) and Grace (Jane Fonda) that they are gay and in love with one another.

Sure, it's not the most common story. But being gay is just one of many secrets people hide from family members. Eventually, these secrets come out. In honor of Mother’s Day, The Advocate asked the stars and creators of Grace and Frankie to share stories of revealing these secrets to mom as well as her reaction to the news.

See what Jane Fonda, Ethan Embry, Brooklyn Decker, creator Marta Kauffman, and more had to say on the following pages.
