On June 14, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, a vigil was held in Duarte Park for the three Dominican victims of the Orlando shooting. Duarte Park is considered a safe space, occupied and appropriated by the LGBT community a few years ago after being moved from several public spaces. The presence of gay U.S. Ambassador James “Wally” Brewster and his husband, Bob Satawake, added gravity to the ceremony.
