Elton John Defends Kevin Spacey at Sexual Assault Trial

The legendary gay singer and his husband brought evidence before the court on behalf of the defense.

Elton John and his husband David Furnish appeared during Kevin Spacey's sexual assault trial to testify on behalf of the defense.

One of Spacey's alleged victims accused the actor of sexually assaulting him in a car while they were driving to a White Tie and Tiara Ball — an event held annually at John and Furnish's Windsor home — in 2004 or 2005.

The couple refuted this, corroborating Spacey's statement that he had only attended the event in 2001, according to the Associated Press. Furnish explained that he had reviewed photographs from the White Tie and Tiara Balls held between 2001 and 2005, and Spacey was only present in images from 2001, as all guests were photographed each year.

John, who testified via video link from Monaco, recalled Spacey attending the party once during the early 2000s, an appearance that caused excitement among the guests due to his Oscar-winner status.

"He came on a private jet and came straight to the ball," John told the court. After the event, Spacey spent the night at the couple's home.

Regarding the alleged incident, the complainant acknowledged that he might have misremembered the year, but asserted that the assault had indeed taken place and that he had almost crashed the car when Spacey forcefully grabbed his crotch.

The timeline is critical as the man claimed that Spacey assaulted him multiple times throughout the early 2000s, with the incident in the car being the final occasion. The accuser added that he threatened to hit Spacey and thereafter avoided him.

Spacey claimed that he and the accuser were friends and had engaged in some consensual romantic contact, but that he did not pursue further advances because the man was straight.

Last week, another accuser testified that he woke to Spacey sexually assaulting him after he fell asleep at the actor's apartment. The trial is ongoing.
