New Short Film Content Explores Consent Between Queer Men in Modeling

The new film Content from director Chris Coats follows a gay model currently working as the muse for a professional photographer's new project. While the former is more reserved, the latter is quite forward, comfortable doing whatever it takes to get the perfect shot, no matter how close the two men will have to be.

The short film stars Ben Sidell, who wrote the script after an experience similar to what his protagonist endures. In Content, the characters navigate the issue of consent, which is particularly complex in their case of a not-so-strict professional relationship. Topics such as these are not often explored in LGBTQ+ spaces or social platforms, complicating the issue even further.

"With Content, it was our goal to discuss the complicated nature and grey areas of consent in the gay community. This scene is an exploration of the cat and mouse dynamics between two gay men exchanging power and flirtation until the line of professionalism is crossed," Sidell said in a statement to The Advocate. "In the digital world we are teased with the promise of false validation, but in the real world we are left wondering how much that recognition is really worth."
