Originally founded 25 years ago to help care for the pets of those suffering from HIV and AIDS, PAWS/LA continues to be a lifechanging resource for low-income seniors as well as those debilitated by illness to keep their furry friends in their lives. Currently, more than 1,700 animal guardians and 2,000 pets are assisted by PAWS/LA. In honor of its upcoming Silver Jubilee Celebration, The Advocate has compiled this look at many of the pets and guardians that are able to stay paw-in-hand thanks to this essential group.
For more information about PAWS/LA's 25th anniversary gala, "An Evening with Lorna Luft," a concert and dinner that will honor animal activist Betty White on October 16 at the Fonda Theater in Hollywood, visit pawsla.org. Tickets for the fundraiser begin at $175.
