AIDS Foundation Houston has named current vice president of community relations Kelly McCann as the agency's new CEO, the Houston Chronicle reports. McCann joined the organization in 1996.
"Kelly is extraordinary in that she has a true passion regarding HIV/AIDS and serving the Houston community," Michael Mizwa, the foundation's CEO when McCann started, told the Chronicle. "She's basically a native Houstonian and brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm. She's made-to-order for the foundation."
McCann says one of her first goals is to improve AIDS Foundation Houston's annual AIDS walk fund-raiser to the point where it generates at least $1 million a year for the agency. The organization also plans to hold a series of arts-related events beginning in September as well as launching an HIV prevention campaign targeting teens and young adults.
