Prince Edward Island officials will not offset federal funding cut to AIDS group.
The Canadian AIDS service organization AIDS Prince Edward Island has lost federal funding to pay for its executive director, and provincial health officials say they will not cover the $27,000 ($23,750 U.S.) funding gap to pay for the position, the Canadian Press reports. The loss of funding means that the agency's two other employees will be forced to handle the executive director's duties after June 30 in addition to their existing job responsibilities. AIDS Prince Edward Island provides services to about 500 clients. Outgoing executive director Kristin Roe says AIDS Prince Edward Island is the only AIDS organization that does not receive provincial funding. (The Advocate)
