Ten percent of gay men in London have tested positive for HIV, according to a study by the British Health Protection Agency, and 4% of gay men across the United Kingdom carry the virus.

The study, which will be released this week, is also expected to show that almost 8,000 people were diagnosed with the disease in 2006, increasing the total number of people infected in the U.K. to 70,000.

One British government source told The Independent that doctors worry that young people no longer see the virus as a killer and are practicing unsafe sex. (The Advocate)
