Kenneth Williams diaries being auctioned

The [London] Times reports that the diaries and letters of late gay actor Kenneth Williams are going on the auction block. The archive runs from 1942 until the evening of the actor's death in 1988 and includes 3,000 letters received by Williams, best known for his appearances in the British Carry On series of comedies, and 580 carbons of letters sent by him. Among the letters are communications from gay playwright Joe Orton. The manuscript specialist for Christie's, which is auctioning the documents, said, "He was famous for being incredibly camp, but there was an introspective and intellectual side of Williams that comes out in his diaries and letters." The diaries are expected to fetch up to PS25,000 (approximately $36,000 U.S.).
