Sir Ian McKellen among nominees for 74th annual Academy Awards

Out actor Sir Ian McKellen received an Academy Award nomination on Tuesday morning for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Gandalf the Grey in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, one of 13 nominations the film received overall. The musical romance Moulin Rouge and the John Forbes Nash Jr. biopic A Beautiful Mind each received eight nominations, despite the controversy in some quarters over the fact that Mind leaves out Nash's alleged bisexuality, which was touched upon in Sylvia Nasar's biography.
