For the first time in China's history, that country's gay community is the focus of a published study. The 650,000-word report was sponsored by the Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program and includes more than 400 cases of "men who have sex with men." The report, titled "MSM Behavior of the Chinese: Gender and the Research of Self-identity," analyzes each subject's sexual behavior, emotional life, and self-evaluation. Renmin University sociology professor Pan Suimin said the study examines how China's gay men express themselves, their normal behavior, their communication habits, and how they sustain personal relationships. Last fall, Shanghai's Fudan University became the first school in the country to offer a "homosexual studies" course. (Sirius OutQ News)
