The blog of AIDS advocate Michael Petrelis is reporting that San Francisco city councilman Bevan Dufty has arranged an April 7 meeting between local elected officials, concerned citizens, and the honorary consul of Jamaica for San Francisco, Newton Gordon.

The meeting came about after a group of San Franciscans, including Petrelis, gathered on Saturday in the Castro to launch the "Boycott Jamaica" campaign. The campaign was launched in response to a recent State Department report that said Jamaican gays are increasingly being subjected to mob violence and targeted shootings.

According to Petrelis, the San Francisco group will urge the consulate to take immediate action and demand that Jamaica's government protect its gay citizens.

Petrelis also claims that Dufty promised to get Myer's rum and Red Stripe beer -- two imports from Jamaica -- out of Castro bars.
