Fox News contributor Caitlyn Jenner is fighting Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis over an anti-LGBTQ+ advertisement he made in June that expressly includes the transgender Olympian. In that ad, an interviewer asks Trump if Jenner can use the bathroom of her choice at Trump properties, to which Trump replies, “That is correct.” DeSantis defended the ad in an interview with Fox News’s Bret Baier on Monday night.

“I don’t believe in demeaning anybody, and we have not done that since I’ve been governor,” DeSantis said during a pained section of his interview.

“These things get shared or whatever, and look, I’m responsible for it, don’t get me wrong. But the idea that like I was sitting there like, ‘oh, share this video.’ No, it’s a rapid-response thing,” DeSantis explained. “But on those issues about injecting men into women’s competitions, that’s wrong. We’ve taken a strong stand with respect to women’s athletics, protecting women’s sports. We’ve also protected women’s bathrooms and locker rooms, and at the end of the day, we can’t go down this road where there’s 37 different genders…”

Jenner responded on X, formerly known as Twitter, challenging DeSantis to direct her to an acceptable bathroom.

“Hey @GovRonDeSantis watching your interview on @BretBaier. You’re still defending your bizarre anti-gay ad. Which bathroom should I use?” Jenner wrote in response to the Florida governor’s interview in which he insisted men were being let into women’s bathrooms and locker rooms.

She then tweeted a screenshot of an article that confirmed that she underwent gender-affirmation surgery.

Given Jenner’s vocal identification as a “MAGA Republican” and other puzzlingly transphobic remarks, and the fact that she has advocated the exclusion of transgender women from sports, her focus on DeSantis, who has virtually dedicated his career to restricting LGBTQ+ rights, particularly those of transgender Floridians, is noteworthy.

Jenner continues to support the twice impeached, thrice indicted former president, Donald Trump, by espousing MAGA talking points, including the claim that special counsel Jack Smith’s indictment of the former president on Tuesday on fraud and conspiracy charges in connection with trying to overturn the 2020 election was a sham and part of a witch hunt.
