Last month Ricky Martin took to his website to condemn international hate crimes and call for tolerance. Now the singer is taking to Twitter to drum up support for his next venture - donating blood.

The singer, who has declined to talk in interviews about his personal life but has become increasingly vocal about his support for gay rights and causes, tweeted on Sunday: "i want to donate blood, have you ever? quiero donar sangre, alguna vez lo haz hecho?"

Blood donation by men who have sex with men has been banned in the United States since 1985.
