The case of a Christian protester who disrupted a gay pride event in 2007 may be decided by New York's highest court.
According to NBC station WETM 18, Julian Raven and three others were found guilty of disorderly conduct by the Elmira city court in 2008 for their protest that disrupted the Southern Tier Gay Pride event in Wisner Park (pictured) in downtown Elmira. Three of the convictions were dismissed on appeal, but Raven's case is now in the hands of the New York court of appeals, the state's high court.
Evidence indicates that police officers spoke directly with Raven and advised him not to disrupt the parade. Raven argues that his arrest violated his right to free speech in a public space.
