Dan Savage appeared on The Gayle King Show to promote his just-released "It Gets Better" book, and he says the fact that President Obama would record a video aimed at saving the lives of LGBT youth just a few weeks after the campaign launched is proof it's getting better.
"I'm old enough to remember when Ronald Reagan was president and the AIDS virus was decimating the gay community," Savage says. "He didn't say the word AIDS until 1987, 'til tens of thousands of gay men had died. He never addressed it, wouldn't talk about it.
"For the President of the United States now to jump in, in just a couple of weeks, to participate in a project to save the lives of LGBT youth... in my experience, that is so remarkable. That itself is a sign of how it's gotten better."
