Former New York Times food critic Frank Bruni will become the newspaper's first openly gay op-ed columnist.
Bruni, a Pulitzer Prize finalist and author of the memoir Born Round, will write an op-ed piece every other Sunday.
"Frank needs no introduction. If you don't know his work as a political writer, a foreign correspondent, food critic, magazine writer (I know I must have missed something), then you haven't been reading The Times for the last almost 16 years," Andrew M. Rosenthal, Opinion Page editor, wrote in an e-mail to staff.
