Visibility is more important than ever nowadays, especially for communities often ignored in the media, which is why comic artist Xanthippe Hutcheon (best known as “Xan”) took a stab at drawing some of the more than 30 flags representing groups on the LGBTQ+ spectrum. Hutcheon has drawn about her life and transition for years on ComicsByXan.com. A bisexual trans artist from the U.K., Xan now lives in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Flag you most identify with: Lots of them, but the ones I have hanging in my living room are the trans and non-binary flags.
Your passions: Sailor Moon, Lumberjanes, and Indian food.
Favorite animals: Spotted hyenas. And I can spend a full hour telling you why if you give me the slightest opportunity.
How long you’ve been drawing: For as long as I can remember. Right now, art is a hobby for me, but my ambition is to make it into a career.
Why you draw comics: I think art can inspire people to change the world.
