The U.S. Women's National Team Celebrates Its Record Winning World Cup Match

The women of the United States Women's National Soccer Team began their World Cup journey Tuesday at the FIFA Women's World Cup in Reims, France. To say that it was an eventful game is a massive understatement, as the team broke multiple records all across the board. The U.S. beat Thailand 13-0 in what is the biggest win in World Cup history in both the women's and the men's game. Alex Morgan scored five of the 13 goals, sharing the record of most goals scored by a single player in a Women's World Cup game with USA soccer legend Michelle Akers. Other goal scorers included out player Megan Rapinoe (1), Rose Lavelle (2), Lindsey Horan (1), Sam Mewis (2), Mallory Pugh (1), and Carli Lloyd (1), who together set a record for most individual scorers in a Women's World Cup game. Lavelle, Horan, Mewis, and Pugh scored goals in the kickoff match of their first time at FIFA Women's World Cup. The USWNT, defending its title from four years ago, went into the World Cup as strong as ever.
