Pete and Ashlee Shop Target

Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz were seen shopping at Target over the weekend, which contradicts the Fall Out Boy bassist's pro-equality image.

PETE WENTZ ASHLEE SIMPSON X390

Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz was spotted shopping at Target this weekend with his wife, singer Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, which could pose a problem for his image as an outspoken gay rights advocate.

According to E! Online, the couple was buying toys for their son, Bronx, at a Los Angeles area Target.

Trouble is, the Minnesota-based company is under fire for its $150,000 contribution to a conservative group that supports antigay gubernatorial contender Tom Elmer. Target refused to make an equivalent donation to gay rights groups when asked by the Human Rights Campaign. In response, HRC dropped Target and Best Buy, which also contributed to the group, from its annual Buyer’s Guide.

E! Online reports that a representative for Wentz and Simpson-Wentz had no immediate comment.

I'm surprised by the number of gays who hate themselves enough to go ahead and support the Target business which works directly against full equality. And i think some of the gainsayers of the boycott here are posers. "Miss thang"? Who says that anymore?--someone who just read Midnight in the Garden of Evil and who works for Target, likely.

What tools, who is organizing the boycott, in all the press I have seen there is no call for an organized boycott. Is Rosie pushing for it as she is a spokesman for Target, how do you know that anyone even informed Pete and his wife that Target was the target of a bunch of dizzy queens who are complaining what the CEO did and not the company. This has gone on long enough, you got a reaction from the shareholders who have questioned the company, the Board of Directors who are upset about the donation being made in the name of the company. Unless overall the company changes their behavior, get over it, it was done and can't be undone, if you are really so concerned then donate money to his opponent. You can't have a witch hunt over every donation to a candidate you don't like, then you are like them, and the first ammendment is dead. You don't like his politics, fine vote against him, you don't like the CEO's actions, buy ten shares and vote him out, that is democracy.

Methinks that this is starting to look more like the Pete Wentz/Ashlee Simpson fans who couldn't give a flying leap about LGBT equality making noise because they're concerned about any negative publicity about the objects of their affection. I bet a quick search would reveal that the call has gone out to bombard the Advocate site with these kinds of messages. On another note for those who may actually care about having a more informed opinion about Target's donations, I recommend the following article: http://www.queerty.com/targets-anti-gay-political-donations-are-not-actually-new-a-history-lesson-20100805/

Quentin asks: "I haven't seen a single anti-Target person here answer a simple question: if Target is out to get the gays, why didn't they just contribute the money directly to Emmer? Or to NOM?" Answer: "Upset with restrictions on political campaign contributions, backers of Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer are seeking to overturn a Minnesota law barring corporations from contributing directly to campaigns and parties." Minneapolis Star Tribune, July 8, 2010, Pat Doyle reporting. So, you see, Quentin, Tom Emmer is working on your sticky question: How do we hide Target donations from TEH GAYZ?
