Carrey-McGregor Gay Film Delayed Again

JIM CARREY EWAN MCGREGOR X390 (FAIR USE CELEBRITY-GOSSIP.NET) | ADVOCATE.COM

Audiences who want to see Ewan McGregor make love to Jim Carrey are going to have to wait much longer than expected. The film I Love You Phillip Morris, in which the two actors play convicts who fall in love while in prison, originally premiered at the Sundance film festival in January 2009 and has now had its theatrical release date postponed indefinitely. The film was scheduled to be released March 26, then it was delayed to April 30, but now a spokeswoman for the film tells Los Angeles Times that the release has been canceled again and a new date has not been scheduled.

This showed at a mainstream cinema in Dublin, Ireland. No one freaked out at the showing I was at, in a theater crowded with young people on a Sunday night. Get it together America!

So the studios and distributors wonder why people download media illegally, not that I'm suggesting that people should do so. But restricting access hurts everybody. If the movie industry doesn't soon create a business model that allows consumers to access what they want, when they want it, and from what sources, they will find themselves going the way of the music industry. I'd gladly pay a fair price--less than the cost of a movie ticket--to be able to watch this movie at home if no distributor was willing to pick it up.

We may even beat the the land of the free and the home of the brave on that point!? But I'm not holding my breath. Anyway, now I gotta go see this movie...

Can't a gay indie company pick this up and distribute it? With all the gays in Hollywood, how can homophobia and censorship win so easily? The film has two straight famous actors playing gay roles. Surely one or both will be nominated for an Oscar for "being brave".

I saw this at a screening with a university film society. I guess we got an advance copy? It was fine... but you're not really missing that much.

Have the distributors seen the trailer for this movie? It looks so great. Why are they doing this to us? If I have to watch it leaked, I fucking will!
