Two men found dead from gunshots Sunday night in southeast Atlanta were among the attendees at the city’s Black Gay Pride events over the Labor Day weekend.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the victims were identified as Calvin Streater, 26, of Atlanta and Samuel Blizzard, Jr., 21, of Virginia. Blizzard was a student at Georgia State University.

“A friend found the victims in an apartment at the Station at Richmond Hill Apartments, in the 1700 block of Richmond Circle,” reported the Journal-Constitution.

Police, who said the men attended the Black Gay Pride festivities, believe the victims knew their killer.

According to the GA Voice, police said there was no evidence that the men’s attendance at the gay event motivated the shooting, but the investigation remained “wide open” by Monday afternoon.

Late last month, Black Gay Pride organizer Durand Robinson was found shot to death on a street in southwest Atlanta. Police continue to investigate the murder.

Jason BR your absolutely right,Why does Gay always get a negative connotation, why is something negative associated with the Black GBT community. This murder didnt even take place anywhere near the Black Pride event locations. If the shooting took place anywhere downtown or midtown Atlanta or Decatur then we could say this was related to the Black Gay Pride events but it wasn't they just happen to attend and were murdered back at their apartment. What if this happened a week after Black Pride would it still associated with the event?

So, Samuel Blizzard Jr. was only staying at the apartment to go to school. The family is under the assumption that the apartment belongs to another cousin. Calvin was gay (or so we heard) but Samuel isn't. The police are saying they "believe" they both went to the gay festival. Which knowing Samuel like we do, it isnt something he would be into. Personally, i think that reporters and police need to be more cautious into what info is given to the public. This murder is a heart wrenching situation and he will be deeply missed.

Bryan, They were not killed at the event, but the headline would lead you to believe that they were, or at least that their murder had some kind of connection to the black gay pride parade. They were found dead in an apartment, and they may have known their killer. If they have been shopping at Macy's earlier that day, do you think the headline should have read "Macy's shoppers killed"?

I don't understand the use of the word "killed" in the headline. The 2 men were murdered. There's a big difference. You're killed in a car accident, when a tree falls on top of you, when a building collapses on top of you in an earthquake. When your death is at the hands of a human it's called murder.

What a tragety. There appears to be no link say the police. My question would be "how hard have they looked ? This investigation has just began so how can they make that statement at this point. Sounds like this investigation and the one involving the black gay leader last month have produced little so far in the way of leads. Are the Atlanta police bias to gays or black or both. I personally know there is a lot of racismm around the country areas outside Atlanta. This is an event that should be followed closely.

I would like to know something!!!! I read a lot of the comments on articles in the Advocate, so why do the people that gripe so much about the content, keep reading it. It seems that they are so unhappy that they enjoy reading it and then griping(or should I say bitching) about why the article was in there!!! LAUGH OUT LOUD.....Please quit reading it if you are going to bitch about why the article was in there....it 's the same as griping about the tv when all they have to do is turn it off!!!!

Jason/Trevor: Did I miss something? Sensationalized headline? All southerners are racist? How the hell did you get that out of the headline? It was a black gay pride event, attendees were killed. Just what the headline says, so what's the problem?

I agree that this is a ridiculously sensationalized headline, but not sure that they are trying to give it any racist slant. More of a gay attack slant, but they said it appears that they may have known the murderer so it probably isn't either.
