Tuesday marked the first full day of marriage equality statewide in Florida, as same-sex couples tied the knot from the panhandle to the Keys.
Couples in Miami-Dade County, the state's most populous, got a jump on the action, when a state judge lifted a stay on her pro-equality ruling Monday, allowing couples there to wed that afternoon. Representatives for the state didn't even bother to attend Monday's hearing and offered no objection when Judge Sarah Zabel announced she was lifting the stay.
And it looks like the freedom to marry might stick around in the Sunshine State, as Attorney General Pam Bondi -- a twice-divorced Republican who has exhausted every legal option to try to keep same-sex couples from marrying -- essentially conceded defeat.
"The judge has ruled, and we wish these couples the best," Bondi's press secretary told the Associated Press in an email Tuesday.

As hundreds of happy same-sex couples flocked to their local courthouses to get hitched, several cities hosted mass wedding ceremonies to mark the ocassion. Meanwhile, the state's tourism department, Visit Florida, dispatched local journalists to destinations statewide to capture images and video of same-sex weddings taking place, while families and supporters cheered the historic unions.
