Stylist Disowns Shiloh Quotes in Life and Style

VH1 style expert Alana Kelen is distancing herself from her quotes in Life & Style magazine about the way Angeline Jolie dresses her daughter Shiloh. Kelen says that the quotes in last week's issue represent a "twist" of her words, but the magazine says otherwise.

The controversial story quotes Kelen saying, "Shiloh is pushing the boundaries of a tomboy look and crossing over to cross-dresser territory." Other "experts" cited on gender and fashion include a representative for the antigay group Focus on the Family.

Kelen e-mailed the blog Jezebel to say that she was misquoted by Life & Style.

"The actual quote began with 'Some might think...' but they conveniently took that out to make it seem the thought was my own, and did not contact me for that final approval," said Kelen, who added that many of her friends and colleagues are LGBT people.

However, Life & Style publicist Lindsay Ferraro later e-mailed Jezebel to say that Kelen was not misquoted, citing documentation of the e-mailed interview.

"In response to the question, 'Do you think she looks too boyish for a 3-year-old girl?' Alana Kelen answered, 'I definitely think that Shiloh is pushing the boundaries of a tomboy look and crossing over to cross-dresser territory. The neckties just put it a bit over the edge, mostly because boys themselves rarely sport ties.' "
