10. TV: Veronica Mars

9. THEATER: Mormon Boy Trilogy
Playwright-performer Steven Fales brings his three autobiographical solo plays that reconcile being gay with his Mormon faith (Confessions of a Mormon Boy, Missionary Position, and the brand-new Prodigal Dad) together for the first time in repertory, for a six-week pre-Broadway tryout. April 19-May 26 at Hollywood's Hudson Guild Theatre. For more information go to MormonBoy.com.
8. TV: Don't Trust The B---- In Apartment 23
James Van Der Beek's awesomely committed performance as James Van Der Beek--a single, horndog version of himself, anyway-- is just one reason to tune in to this hilarious roommate-from-hell sitcom from out show-runner Nahnatchka Khan. Krysten Ritter's inspired turn as Chloe, a party girl-con woman with an unerring
ability to make life hell for naive new roommate June (Dreama Walker), is another. Wednesdays on ABC.
7. CONCERT: Keith Mina Caputo
The transgender lesbian metal rocker and former Life of Agony vocalist brings her haunting melodies, soul-baring lyrics, and magnetic stage presence for a one-night-only show at New York's legendary Joe's Pub tonight. For more information go here.
6. DVD: American Translation
This compulsively watchable sex- and violence-laden thriller from France (on DVD April 17) finds Chris (Pierre Perrier), a handsome, hedonistic, sexually ambiguous 20-something who travels around the countryside with his pretty girlfriend Aurore (Lizzie Brochere), where he hooks up with young gay hustlers before strangling them.
5. FESTIVAL: TCM Classic Film Festival 2012
With Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey on hand to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Cabaret, Kim Novak sharing memories about making Vertigo, and Debbie Reynolds reminiscing about Singin' in the Rain, it's a gay film buff's wildest fever dream come true. Debonair host Robert Osborne will introduce select screenings and interview talent as the star-studded third annual Turner Classic Movies festival continues in Hollywood through Sunday. For more information go here.
4. FILM: Hit So Hard
Patty Schemel, the gay and scorchingly talented drummer best-known for her work with Courtney Love's seminal rock band Hole and now six years sober, is remarkably candid while detailing her rise, drug-related fall, and recovery from substance abuse. Director P. David Ebersole tells her story using new interviews with other musicians, including other female drummers, and vintage concert footage, and of course, there's the always fascinating and typically uninhibited Love, speaking up for her longtime friend and often with her mouth filled with food. Most touching, though, in this cautionary tale is home video of Kurt Cobain playing tenderly with baby Frances Bean, just months before ending his own life.
3. TV: Girls
Sometimes you can believe the hype. HBO's highly touted post-recession antidote to its own Sex and the City lives up to and exceeds expectations. Wunderkind Lena Dunham draws on her own life, including her "multiple gay ex-boyfriends," to write, direct, and star in this eminently quotable, naturalistic half-hour dramedy about four 20-something females wondering what to do with their lives in Brooklyn.
2. MUSIC: Scissor Sisters, "Only The Horses"
The irresistibly catchy first single from the band's upcoming Magic Hour album
(out May 28) finds Jake Shears and gang teaming with super-producer
Calvin Harris for this soaring track that could -- fingers crossed -- finally
take the band to the next level in the States. Listen to it here.
1. TV: Kathy
Kathy Griffin says she wants viewers of her new weekly one-hour talk show to feel like they're at lunch with a chatty girlfriend. Deal! Expect Griffin's singular take on celebrities and politics, and -- yes! -- frequent appearances by her boxed wine-swilling mother Maggie. Premieres on Bravo Thursday.
