The Toronto International Film Festival is a strong predictor of award winners to come.
The Toronto International Film Fest (TIFF), long a harbinger of Oscar nominations to come, kicks off on Thursday and runs through September 17. This year's festival boasts 18 LGBT-themed films from the Emma Stone- and Steve Carrell-starrer Battle of the Sexes, about Billie Jean King's famed match with self-confessed male chauvinist Bobby Riggs, to director Luca Guadagnino's highly anticipated Call Me By Your Name, which stars Armie Hammer and Timothee Chalamet in a summertime love story. The festival also offers plenty of international and documentary films on its slate. While it may not be possible to attend TIFF, rest-assured, these 18 films will be the LGBT ones to watch over the coming year.
