A Long Road to Freedom: The Advocate Celebrates 50 Years is getting a limited theatrical run. Directed by Billy Clift and produced by Emmy-nominated actor-producer David Millbern, the documentary spans the history of The Advocate from its beginnings in 1967 after a protest outside the Black Cat gay bar in Los Angeles to its current status as the world's leading LGBTQ news organization. The film will release in 20 cities, including Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Seattle, and Madison, Wis. This documentary "demonstrates that with courage and resilience, we can conquer any foe," Milbern says. "As bad as things may seem currently, we have been here before. We hope that this film not only educates but serves as a call to action for a new generation of activists."
Catch the film this week at the following locations:
November 13 in Los Angeles at Laemmle NoHo 7
November 13 in Bremerton, Wash., at Roxy Cinema
November 13 in Seattle at Varsity Theatre
November 16 in Palm Springs, Calif., at Camelot Theatres
Additional theatrical dates forthcoming.
