Kate McKinnon Set to Star in Sci-Fi Film In the Blink of an Eye

The lesbian comedian has come aboard for a new film project.

Kate McKinnon, out former Saturday Night Live cast member and star of films like Ghostbusters and The Spy Who Dumped Me, has been attached to In The Blink of An Eye, an upcoming sci-fi project from Searchlight Pictures.

Mckinnon ended her legendary run on SNL in May 2022. At the time of her exit, she held the record for the show’s longest-tenured female cast member. She was lauded for her impressions of celebrities and politicians, and her refreshingly gay sketch work. McKinnon won two Primetime Emmy Awards for her work on the series.

In the Blink of an Eye is one of several feature films that McKinnon has landed since leaving SNL, inlcuding Yesterday and Netflix’s The Bubble. This year, she is set to appear in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming live-action Barbie film, which is slated for a July release.

Per Deadline, In the Blink of an Eye is being helmed by Andrew Stanton, whose directorial work includes Finding Nemo, WALL-E, and Disney’s John Carter.

Stanton won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature for both Finding Nemo and WALL-E. He has also made an impact in the world of television, directing episodes of acclaimed shows like Stranger Things, Better Call Saul, and the Disney + Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi.

In the Blink of an Eye will feature three intersecting storylines that span thousands of years, Deadline reports. Details around the project are being kept under wraps.

In 2012, McKinnon became the first out lesbian to join the cast of SNL. And last year, she famously mocked Florida’s controversial “Don’t Say Gay” bill during an appearance on the series’ “Weekend Update” segment.
