NBC may countersue in Will & Grace dispute

Variety reports that NBC is planning to file a countersuit against Will & Grace creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick next week. Kohan (who's straight) and Mutchnick (who's gay) filed suit in December against the network, saying that since NBC owns the show, the network didn't negotiate a fair license fee. NBC's countersuit will accuse the duo of breach of contract, since NBC insiders claim that an independent consultant was hired to negotiate the licensing deal and that the producers signed a contract agreeing to be an independent third party in the negotiations between NBC and NBC Studios, which produces Will & Grace. This complaint may be the first of its kind to go all the way to court; in the meantime, it appears that the network will not invite Kohan and Mutchnick to oversee production of the show next season.
