Ellen DeGeneres and Charlize Theron among nominees for 2004 MTV Movie Awards
Just when you thought award season was finally over, along come the nominees for the 2004 MTV Movie Awards, featuring the usual mix of sincerity and tongue-in-cheek humor. Ellen DeGeneres is up for Best Comedic Performance for her turn in Finding Nemo while Charlize Theron has locked up another Best Female Performance nomination for her Oscar-winning portrayal of lesbian multiple murderer Aileen Wuornos in Monster. (Theron and costar Christina Ricci are also nominated in the Best Kiss category.) Johnny Depp's portrayal of an outrageously fey swashbuckler in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl snagged nods in both Best Male Performance and Best Comedic Performance categories. Seann William Scott's gay bar dance-off routine in American Wedding earned him a nomination for Best Dance Sequence, but, for some reason, MTV snubbed his dance partner and costar, Eric Allan Kramer. The MTV Movie Awards will be taped on June 5 for broadcast on the network June 10.
