P-Town Summer Workshop 06/26 - 08/28 You've dreamed for years of spending a summer vacation immersed in a writing or painting workshop but your partner insists on enjoying the week at the beach. Now each of you can follow your individual bliss on the same vacation. The Fine Arts Work Center (FAWC) in Provincetown is offering a Summer Workshop Program of more than 100 workshops in writing and the visual arts. FAWC was founded in 1968 by U.S. poet laureate Stanley Kunitz and painter Robert Motherwell as a 7-month winter residency program for emerging young writers and artists. This is where writer Michael Cunningham (The Hours, A Home at the End of the World) got his early break (and he credits the place with saving his creative life). Starting June 26 and continuing through August 28, you have the opportunity to study photography, watercolor, sculpture, etching, playwriting, poetry or fiction (the latter with Mr. Cunningham himself, July 30-31). This year's catalogue lists the most classes ever, an assortment geared for all levels from novice to professional. Other faculty members this summer include Grace Paley, Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Franz Wright (also a former FAWC Fellow), Amy Arbus and Rafael Campo. So, this summer, write or paint all morning and still be able to join your partner at the Boatslip for tea dance! For more information about this summer's FAWC workshop offerings, check out www.FAWC.org or call 508-487-9960
